David Harbour On HGTV

David Harbour of the NOVA Green Team will be appearing on "Get It Sold" on HGTV tonight, February 28, at 6:00 PM, and tomorrow, March 1, at 11:30 AM. All times Eastern.

From HGTV:

Get It Sold helps people who haven't been able to sell their house in a softening real estate market. Top real estate experts explain why buyers aren't biting, and staging expert Sabrina Soto suggests simple fixes (no carpenter required) to get the home ready for the open house. A listing agent provides a close look at the competition through tours of other comparable homes in the area. Once the staging makeover is complete, it's time for the open house to get the house sold.

NOVA Green Team In Leesburg Today

Dulles Realtor Launches 'Green Team'
"One of the things that separates us from the hundreds of thousands of agents is we went through high-level training of green and economic-friendly practices. We've been learning everything about sustainable products to energy audits to energy efficient mortgages. That's one thing that definitely separates us. Hopefully we're taking the lead," Harbour said.

Who We Are And Why We're Here

You may be asking yourself, “So what is this NOVA Green Team and NOVA Green Living stuff all about, anyway?”
We’re glad you asked!
Let’s start off by telling you what we’re not about.
The NOVA Green Team isn’t about any sort of political ideology or about pushing an agenda. We’re not trying to tell you how to live or what to think.
What we are trying to do is provide you with the information and resources you need to make eco-friendly choices that suit your lifestyle (and your pocketbook).
That’s part of the purpose of this blog; helping you to find ways to go green without having to make radical changes to the way you live.
So why go green in the first place?
No matter where you stand on environmental issues, we at the NOVA Green Team think we can all agree that when we use energy-efficient appliances, sustainable and renewable building materials, and products that aren’t full of toxic materials or that don’t create toxic byproducts, we’re all better off, both in our personal environments and in the world at large.
And if we can do all of those things while saving money, so much the better!
Beyond the larger and, frankly, abstract advantages of using energy-efficient appliances, for example, there is the more concrete advantage of lowering your annual energy expenses. As stated here, the average household spends $1,300 to $1,900 every year on energy costs. Using Energy Star appliances can reduce those costs by 30 percent on average.
Okay, so maybe you’re convinced that going green just might be worthwhile, but now you’re wondering how NOVA Green Team and the NOVA Green Living blog figure into it.
Well, that’s actually where you come in. Our goal is to be the number one resource for Northern Virginia’s green information needs, and we need you to let us know what they are so we can do just that.
What are your concerns? What are your questions? What kind of content do you want to see?
We have some ideas, and we’ll be providing content that we think will be useful and important, like some of the links to articles and sites that have already been posted, but we want to hear from you.
Feel free to contact us at info@novagreenteam.com with any questions, requests, or tips, or leave a note for us in the Comments.
Beyond simply being a useful resource, though, we want to create a lively and engaged community whose members share tips, requests, questions, answers, and other information with each other.
So jump into the Comments! Post videos, discussion topics, and messages on our Facebook page!
And most importantly, keep checking back here for all of your green real estate needs.
As we grow – together – we’ll be adding regular features to this blog, such as monthly contests (Who doesn’t like winning free stuff?), and other fun, informative, and interactive features.

Green News And Links

Bamboo-zled: Eco Veneers Storm the Design World
Bamboo is catching the attention of product designers in much the same way as titanium or fruit-colored translucent plastics did a few years ago. Bamboo is an easy way to send a message about the green credentials of a product, say industrial designers. It also appeals to people who want a very visible way to show they swing green — a visible complement to their Anya Hindmarch "I am not a plastic bag" bag and their Priuses.

Green building products used as a lure for homebuyers
The tide toward green building that has taken hold in recent years remained unabated as the industry looks forward to better days, convinced that energy-efficient homes outfitted with sustainable materials will be coveted by future homebuyers.

Green Investing in the Troubled Real Estate Market
Mr. Fairchild foresees a day when real estate agents pitch an inefficient house as an “energy fixer” and property values improve commensurately with energy upgrades. That’s why the firm plans to carefully document its properties’ energy audits, upgrades and resulting decrease in carbon dioxide emissions.

Recycling Arrives at Three Loudoun County Parks

Temporary recycling bins for special events and summer sporting activities have been used for several years, and now, due to funding from the Virginia Litter Prevention and Recycling Grant Program, the parks are able to install permanent recycling bins that may be used throughout the year.

Grab the 'green' real-estate boom
On average, green buildings save 10% of utility costs each year -- and sometimes much more.

Rebuild clean, not just "green" expert says
Another part of indoor air quality involves using materials that do not emit volatile organic compounds such as formaldehyde, Selber said.
"You can buy products that don't contain VOCs, such as VOC-free paint, carpet, insulation and it's really not that much more expensive," she added.

Charlottesville's Green City Vision
"It isn't just a very liberal, tree-hugging perspective. It's something that applies to everybody because we all have an interest in living comfortable and having resources available," said Kristel Riddervold, Charlottesville environmental administrator.

Going green saves green in tough economic times
But Lamm said that there are also other programs that help with “going green.” The National Association of Homebuilder’s “Green Building Program” is even more stringent than Energy Star. Energy Star is a part of this program. Lamm is a builder under this program as well. “It takes a lot of time, effort and planning to do a green building, but it’s well worth it. Every piece that goes into your house can be bought in a 'green format,'” he said.
